ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat fenomena Blasé Attitude yang kerap terjadi dalam masyarakat urban
melalui novel klasik karya Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha. Blasé attitude merupakan sebuah makanisme
pertahanan yang diciptakan oleh masyarakat urban untuk menghadapi perubahan cepat yang terjadi dalam
siklus kehidupan mereka. Fenomena Blasé attitude tersebut akan dianalisis menggunakan pendekatan naratif.
Novel ini menceritakan perjalanan spiritual seorang putra Brahmana bernama Siddhartha untuk menemukan jati
diri dan tujuan hidupnya. Siddhartha telah mencoba berbagai macam peran sosial dalam kehidupan seperti
menjadi seorang cendikiawan, musafir, dan pengikut Buddha sebelum akhirnya ia memutuskan untuk menetap
di kota dan berprofesi sebagai seorang pedagang. Hasil analisis dari penelitian ini menunjukkan keterkaitan
yang erat antara dinamika kehidupan dan interaksi dalam masyarakat urban dengan perubahan gaya hidup, pola
pikir dan keadaan psikologis tokoh Siddhartha.
ABSTRACTThe aim of this study is to see the phenomenon of Blasé Attitude, which happens normally in an urban society
through Hermann Hesse?s classical novel, Siddhartha. Blasé attitude is a defense mechanism which is created by urban society in order to face the rapid changing inthe daily cycle of their life. This phenomenon will be
analyzed with a narative approach. This novel is about a spritual journey of the son of Brahman named
Siddhartha who seeks for his true self and the meaning of his existence. Siddhartha had tried many roles in the society such as an intellectual, a pilgrim, and the follower of Buddha before he finally stayed as a city dweller and started his new life as a businessman. The result of this study shows a firm correlation between the tempo
and interaction of urban society with the alteration of Siddhartha?s habits, ways of thinking, as well as the
