"Cala Ibi adalah novel yang menghadirkan masalah pembacaan atas dirinya kepada pembacanya. Fakta yang demikian pada dasarnya disebabkan oleh ketidakgramatikalan Cala Ibi yang terbentuk oleh piranti sastra yang dimilikinva. Berkaitan dengan hal itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan strategi pembacaan Cala Ibi Dengan memanfaatkan naratologi yang dikembangkan Gerard Genette dan semiotika yang dikembangkan Michael Ritfaterre, ketidakgramatikalan tersebut dapat dipahami dan diubah menjadi gramatikal. Lebih lanjut, dapat diketahui pula bahwa Cala Ibi menyediakan panduan pembacaan bagi pembacanya. Dengan kata lain, Cala Ibi adalah novel yang memiliki kesadaran atas dirinya sendiri atau bersitat metafiksi. Penerimaan atas metafora sebagai hal yang wajar, pembentukan cakrawala harapan baru, dan keikhlasan mengikuti panduan Cala Ibi adalah tiga hal yang perlu dimiliki pembaca Cala Ibi. Dengan ketiga hal tersebut, pembaca dapat mengetahui bahwa kedua puluh empat bab Cala Ibi terdiri atas delapan bab bingkai-Maya dan enam belas bab bingkai-Maia yang mcmbcntuk garis-waktu kisah berupa angka delapan tanpa awal dan akhir. Pembaca pun pada akhirnya memahami bahwa memaknai Cala Ibi berati memahami gagasan-gagasan utamanya tanpa harus keluar dari teks. Dalam Skala yang lebih luas, Cala Ibi menghadirkan pemahaman sekaligus mengajak pembacanya untuk kembali kepada teks. Teks selalu memiliki kekuatannya sendiri dalam mengarahkan pembacaan atas dirinva, dan pembaca hams berkompromi dengan hal itu apabila ingin mendapatkan pemahaman yang tepat atas teks tersebut. Dengan demikian, teks harus dibaca secara utuh sebagai kesatuan.

Cala Ibi is a novel that presents reading problems to the readers. it is basically caused by ungrammaticalities which is constructed by its literary devices. To do with all those facts, this research attempts to find out reading strategy of Cala Ibi. By using Gerard Genette's theory of narrative and Michael Riffaterre's semiotics, its ungrammaticalities can be understood and changed into grammaticalities. All those three give foundation to the readers to understand that twenty-four chapters of Cala Ibi consists of eight chapters of frame-Maya and sixteen chapters of frame-Maia which shape timeline of eight form without beginning or end. The readers finally understand that signification of Cala Ibi means understanding its main idea without look outside the text.In a wider perspective, Cala Ibi presents understanding and also invites the readers to return to the text. Text always has its own power to direct its reader, and the readers must compromise with it in case they want to grab the proper understanding of it. Thus, text must be read as a unity."
