"Pada era globalisasi ini industri manufaktur mengalami perubahan radikal, ditandai dengan inovasi yang tinggi serta umur produk yang begitu pendek. Keadaan ini memaksa industri manufaktur untuk lebih berkonsentrasi pada core capability yang dimiliki, sehingga kegiatan outsourcing menjadi keputusan penting dan strategis. Upaya perusahaan untuk meraih keuntungan kompetitif dimulai dengan melakukan manajemen terhadap pemasoknya. Dalam kenyataan dilapangan, pemilihan pemasok bukanlah perkara mudah, sehingga diperlukan cara yang tepat untuk mendapatkan pemasok potensial.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat rancangan pemilihan pemasok. Dimulai dengan melakukan analisis faktor untuk menetapkan atribut yang digunakan dalam memilih pemasok. Selanjutnya perlu dicari preferensi perusahaan terhadap pemasok, yaitu berupa kombinasi optimal dari atribut dan level yang ada dengan menggunakan analisis conjoint.
Pemilihan terhadap pemasok potensial dapat dilakukan melalui metode MDS. Metode MDS akan memetakan preferensi perusahaan secara visual kedalam ruang multidimensional, sehingga didapat jarak euclidean masing-masing pemasok terhadap ideal point perusahaan. Dengan peta persepsi ini, akan membantu perusahaan memilih pemasok yang berada disekitar ideal point.

In this globalization era, manufacturing industries transforms in radical changes, signed by high innovation and shorter life cycle of products. This condition forces the industries to improve their core capability, and makes the outsourcing activities as an important and strategic decision. First step for gaining the company's competitive profit is by doing the suppliers management. In reality, choosing supplier is not easy, because we need a best way.
The objective of this research is designing the supplier selection. Starting by doing factorial analysis to establish attributes which are used to choose supplier. We also need to know the company's preferences to suppliers, which is an optimal combination of attributes and existing level using conjoint analysis.
MDS method can be used in choosing the potential suppliers. This method maps the company's preferences visually to multidimensional space, in order to get euclidean distance for each supplier to company's ideal point. By using this perception map, company will choose the suppliers which are located around the ideal point.
