"Thesaurus sebagai kosa kata terkendali memegang peranan penting dalam proses pengindeksan dan penelusuran. Dalam sebuah aplikasi pangkalan data bibliografis, penggunaan thesaurus sebagai panduan pencarian masih belum dimanfaatkan secara maksimal. Penelitian ini bertujuan membangun sebuah sistem thesaurus di dalam aplikasi pangkalan data bibiografis sehingga penelusur dapat melihat daftar thesaurus beserta detail hubungan semantiknya. Penelusur dapat menentukan strategi penelusuran dengan memilih istilah yang sesuai dengan kebutuhannya dengan melihat thesaurus tersebut. Selain itu penulis juga merancang sistem pencarian menggunakan istilah-istilah yang telah disimpan dalam sistem thesaurus sehingga pencarian dapat dilakukan menggunakan istilah deskriptor maupun sinonimnya. Hasil penelitian eksperimental ini berupa sebuah prototipe yang dapat dikembangkan lagi dan dimanfaatkan di masa yang akan datang.

Thesaurus as a controlled vocabulary plays an important role in the process of document indexing and search. In a bibliographic database applications, the use of a thesaurus as a search guide is not fully utilized yet. This research aims to build a thesaurus system in the bibliographic database applications so that user can browse a list of thesaurus and its detailed semantic relationships. User can determine the search strategy by selecting the terms that meet their needs by looking at the thesaurus. Beside that I also designed the search method by using terms that have been stored in the thesaurus system so that user can uses the descriptor terms or synonyms. The results of this experimental study is a prototype that can be further developed and utilized in the future."

"Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah 1) untuk mengetahui dan membandingkan: istilah indeks yang dihasilkan penulis artikel, pustakawan dan rumus frekuensi kata; 2) mengetahui konsistensi antara istilah indeks yang dihasilkan penulis artikel, pustakawan dan rumus frequensi kata. Penelitian ini dilakukan terhadap artikel "Indonesian Journal of Crop Science" (IJCS) tahu 1985 s.d. 1997, 'dengan populasi penelitian sebanyak 66 artikel, sedangkan sampel penelitian sama dengan populasi. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah metode dokumenter, sedangkan pengolahan data menggunakan perangkat lunak Microsoft Words versi 97. Data yang terkumpul dianalisa dengan menggunakan rumus Zipf. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: 1) jumlah seluruh kata yang muncul dalam UCS tahun 1985 s.d. 1997 adalah 141.371 kata, termasuk didalamnya kata buangan (stop words) sebanyak 42,7 %. Jumlah kata unik yang muncul adalah 34.750 kata; 2) istilah indeks yang dihasilkan penulis artikel terdiri Bari 194 (48 %) kata tunggal, dan 210 (52 %) frase, istilah indeks yang dihasilkan pustakawan terdiri dari 226 (52 %) kata tunggal dan 209 (48 %) frase, sedangkan istilah indeks yang dihasilkan rumus frekuensi kata berjumlah 603 kata tunggal; 3) Dari seluruh istilah indeks yang terbentuk, 27 % dibuat oleh penulis artikel, 32 % dibuat oleh pustakawan, dan 41 % terbentuk dari rumus frekuensi kata; 4) Dari seluruh istilah indeks berbentuk kata tunggal yang dibuat penulis artikel, 20 % sama dengan istilah indeks yang terbentuk melalui rumus frekuensi kata, sedangkan dari seluruh istilah indeks berbentuk kata tunggal yang dibuat pustakawan, 25 % sama dengan istilah indeks yang terbentuk dari rumus frekuensi kata; 5) pustakawan lebih konsisten dibandingkan penulis artikel dan rumus frekuensi kata karena menggunakan bahasa indeks terkendali.

Study of Comparison between Index Terms Produced by Authors and Librarians: the Case of Indonesian Journal of Crop Science.The objective of this research are as follows (1) to compare index terms produced by authors, librarians, and word frequency formula, and (2) to observe inter-indexer consistency. This research used Indonesian Journal of Crop Science. (IJCS) 1985 - 1997. The samples and the population were 66 articels. Data were collected using documenter method and than processed by using Microsoft Word 97, and analysed by using Zipf's law. The result showed that : (1) the total amount of word occurrence in the article of International Journal of Crop Science in 1985 - 1997 were 141,371 words including 42.7% stop words. The unique term occurrence were identified as much as 34,750 words; (2) the authors and the librarians produced single words and frase index terms, but all of index terms produced by word frequency formula were in single word form; (3) from all of the index terms, 27% were produced by authors, whereas 32% by librarians, and 41% by word frequency formula; (4) from all of the single word index terms produced by authors, 20% of them were similar to word frequency formula index terms, whereas from all of the single word index terms produced by librarians, 25% of them were similar to word frequency formula; 5) librarian are more consistence than authors or word frequency formula. Further research are required in this field."
