"The book is an illuminating window on the world of Japanese wind bands, a unique hybrid tradition that comingles contemporary western idioms with traditional Japanese influences. In addition to its social history of Japanese school music programs, it shows how participation in Japanese school bands contributes to students? sense of identity, and sheds new light on the process of learning to play European orchestral instruments."

"This book explores the differences in cultural attributes and management factors to enable managers working for Japanese contractors to reduce misunderstandings and misinterpretations when communicating with project team members from different cultural backgrounds. It focuses on Japanese contractors operating in Singapore, since the Singapore construction industry has, for many years, been one of the largest overseas construction markets for the top-5 Japanese contractors.
Using Hofstedes national cultural framework for the cultural studies in construction project management, it reveals various real-world management practices and discusses national cultural differences relating to managers working for Japanese contractors in Singapore as well as the communication weaknesses of current management practices and styles. The results presented provide useful lessons for Japanese contractors operating in Singapore, as well as other parts of the world, to bridge cultural and communication gaps."

ABSTRACTThis study investigates the problems of racism and cultural identity crisis of Afro-American people shown in the movie entitled Malcolm-X which was directed by Spike Lee. The aims of this study are to describe common problems in America in the1960s such as: racism, prejudice, discrimination, and cultural identity crises analyzed by Spike Lee through his film, Malcolm-X. Qualitative method and mise-en-scene concept were employed to analyze shots and dialogs in the movie. The study shows that racism exists due to society’s view and it has been socialized among them. Stereotype and prejudice produced the concept of superiority-inferiority, as they become the reason of discrimination in America. This movie suggests that black Americans try to strengthen their identity by using cultural pluralism’s concept and Spike Lee, the director, tries to expose Malcolm-X as one of Afro-American figures."
