"This paper reports on the results of a study conducted with a view to finding out the pragmatic forces behind the choice of a language or a language variety over another, and, additionally. to getting insights into factors that influence code choice. The underlying assumption is that a language or a language var ieey can be seen as a metaphor, which conveys a certain pragmatic meaning, depending on who speaks to whom, where, when, about what, how and why.
Data for the study was drawn from tape recordings of 1udruk. an east Javanese folk theater, which differs from many other forms of drama in that dialogs are not set and memorized and that therefore players have to invent, make up or "recite" their lines without preparation. The rationale for choosing ludruk dialogs as the topic of the study is that, being impromptu, they very much resemble natural, everyday conversations and thus their rules of speaking can be expected to very much reflect those in natural, everyday discourse, if not exactly the same.
While Indonesian, the national language of Indonesia. is also used in ludruk performances -- a recent phenomenon and especially in television performances for audience nationwide - the traditional language of ludruk is Javanese. specifically the eastern dialect of this language. Madurese. the language of the ethnic group on the island of Madura and much or the eastern part of last Java Province. is sometimes user) in a performance, but?"

"Significant amount of the investment in the wood-processing sector in Indonesia was in the form of debts. Even before the 1997 rupiah collapse, for many firms, paying back those debts is one of the highest burdens that a wood-processing firm has had. Having this burden, firms must seek some ways to reduce operational costs. One of the options that a firm can do is receiving illegal logs. On the other hand, illegal logging has been one of the most important issues in Indonesian forest management. It often goes hand in hand with bribery and corruption.
This research finds out whether or not over debt burden is one of the important reasons that wood-processing firms received illegal logs. It also tests the significance of bribery amount spent by the firms and their other characteristics to the illegal logs received. Due to the limitation of data, this research can only observe plywood and sawnwood firms.
The results show that debt is significant in determining the amount of illegal logs received in both industries, while bribery is only significant in indebted plywood firms. Both plywood and sawnwood firms consider the significance of other firm characteristics in different ways. Plywood firms acknowledge debt and size as significant variables while the sawnwoods accept debt, operational costs, and size."

This research aims to investigate the relationship between Facebook use and neuroticism, narcissism, and anxiety. The variables are Facebook use, neuroticism, narcissism, and anxiety. There are 852 participants in this study (M = 29.94, SD = 13.98). The survey was distributed online, with 15 to 20 minutes of participation time. The results show no significant correlation between Facebook use with neuroticism and narcissism, but there is a negative correlation between Facebook use and anxiety. The null results are attributed to the fact that the participants in this study are no longer active users of Facebook, which causes the inability to record their neuroticism, narcissism, and anxiety better than when they are engaging in other social media platforms. The fact that this research was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic actually caused the participants to engage more in social media, however, considering the age of the participants, the social media that the participants frequently use is not Facebook since they no longer actively using Facebook as their main social media. Keywords: Anxiety, Facebook use, Narcissism, Neuroticism."

"On the basis of the theoretical notions of discursive ambience and ambient
discourse, this article examines the recent history of language and ethnicity in
Banyuwangi in the far east of Java. Over the last three decades (with roots going
back to the 1920s and earlier) a redefinition of the language and culture of the
?autochthonous? inhabitants of Banyuwangi has been occurring. Their status and
constitution have been changing from a variety of Javanese into an autonomous
language and ethnicity, called, after the name given to the language or dialect,
Osing. At the same time, an idyllic and heroic picture of the regional past is
being constructed and maintained. Prominent among the factors and agencies
involved in these two ongoing processes is popular media culture. The regency
of Banyuwangi and especially its capital (also named Banyuwangi) are being
cast ? albeit sporadically and incidentally and sometimes controversially ? as
an Osing region. At the centre of this historical process, people publicly render
themselves ? also sporadically and temporarily ? Banyuwanginese by listening
to and especially by singing, in karaoke-style, a genre of pop music with Osing
lyrics and musical characteristics perceived as local."

"This study offers an overview of the characteristics and social functions of youth slang in the Indonesian province of East Java. It examines Boso Walikan and various types of Surabayan slang. Boso Walikan emerged in Malang as a secret language that was deliberately made unintelligible to outsiders. Over the decades, large parts of Malang?s urban population developed proficiency in the language and appropriated it as an identity marker. The situation in nearby Surabaya is different. While lacking a uniform local slang comparable to that of Malang, several communities make an effort to differentiate themselves through specific linguistic habits, which are briefly introduced. These case studies tell us not only how young people shape their speech, they illustrate how the East
Javanese dialect deals with linguistic variety, lexical borrowing and innovation."
