"Regurgitasi atau gumoh merupakan manifestasi klinis tersering refluks gastro-esofagus (RGE) pada bayi. Regurgitasi pada bayi ini merupakan satu-satunya RGE bergejala yang dianggap fisiologis sehingga dapat timbul pada bayi sehat tanpa adanya masalah lain yang merupakan komplikasi RGE. RGE yang disertai komplikasi atau masalah seperti gagal tumbuh, esofagitis, hematemesis dan gejala saluran napas, dimasukkan dalam kelompok penyakit refluks gastro-esofagus (PRGEIGERD=gasiroesophageal refux disease). Komplikasi tersebut dapat timbul pada berbagai usia dan sulit untuk dibedakan antara RGE (fisiologis) dengan PRGE (patologis).Regurgitasi pada bayi adalah kondisi yang umum ditemukan, dengan proporsi mencapai lebih dari 50% bayi pernah mengalami gejala ini dalam tahun pertama kehidupannya. Regurgitasi timbul paling sering pada bayi saat berusia 1-6 bulan, yaitu pada 65-86,9% bayi, kemudian akan berkurang secara bermakna pada usia 6-9 bulan dan terjadi hanya 1-10,3% bahkan hilang lama sekali saat berusia 12 bulan. Yang menjadi masalah adalah belum ada batasan yang jelas antara regurgitasi yang merupakan RGE fisiologis dengan yang patologis, karena RGE sampai menjadi PRGE merupakan suatu spektrum yang berkesinambungan dengan manifestasi klinis yang saling tumpang tindih antara keduanya, terutama pada masa bayi."
