"Lightning strikes to the distribution lines can produce over voltages due to direct or indirect strikes.
For medium voltage 20 kV lines according to some researchers more than 80% of the failures caused by
indirect nearby strikes. Installation of earth wires can reduce over voltages to the lines. A Study on
Application of earth wire to improve the lightning performance on medium voltage lines was carried out
at feeder Kapur and feeder Beton located in the area of Depok and Bogor at south side of Jakarta which
has very high lightning density and has recorded a lot of failures due lightning since the lines. No earth
wire installed on any lines in this area. To choose the suitable earth wire installation six different
scenario was made. This scenario will he applied to these two feeders to get the number and the best
position of earth wire. The influence of the direct strikes and induction of lightning strikes of these six
scenarios will be compared and the number of earth wire, position of earth wi re to the phase wire at the
pole and the size of the conductors will be determined The tropical local lightning data derived from
Indonesian Lightning Detection System and the Rusck formula were used for this analysis. The results of
the study shows that the additional of earth wire improved the performance of the system with minimum
of 26% by installing only one earth wire and the maximum performance can be achieved till 75% by
installing two earth wire on the lines. Field measurement by installing the earth wire on both lines has
given the significant results that the scenarion 6 has reduced the failures to 30%-60% for one year
observation.

"Sambaran petir ke jaringan distribusi akan menyebabkan tegangan lebih akibat sambaran langsung maupun tidak langsung. Menurut beberapa peneliti lebih dari 80% gangguan di jaringan tegangan menengah 20 kV terjadi akibat sambaran dekat jaringan. Pemasangan kawat tanah dapat mengurangi tegangan lebih yang terjadi pada jaringan. Penelitian penggunaan kawat tanah untuk meningkatkan keandalan jaringan pada jaringan tegangan menengah dilakukan pada penyulang Kapur dan penyulang Beton di daerah Depok dan di daerah Bogor dibagian selatan Jakarta. Dilaporkan telah terjadi banyak
kegagalan pada jaringan tegangan menengah akibat sambaran petir. Jaringan tegangan menengah saat ini tidak menggunakan kawat tanah. Dalam penelitian ini dilakukan enam scenario untuk dapat memilih
peletakan dan jumlah kawat tanah terbaik yang akan dipasang pada kedua penyulang. Pengaruh sambaran petir langsung dan induksi pada ke enam scenario ini akan dibandingkan dan dianalisa sehingga jumlah, luas penampang dan posisi kawat tanah terhadap kawat phasa dapat ditentukan. Data sambaran petir lokal diperoleh dari dari Jaringan Deteksi Petir Nasional dan analisa sambaran langsung dan induksi digunakan formula dari Rusck. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa penambahan kawat tanah akan meningkatkan unj uk kerja minimum 26% hanya dengan pemasangan satu kawat tanah dan unjuk kerja maksimum sebesar 75% dapat diperoleh dengan pemasangan dua kawat tanah pada jaringan. Pengukuran lapangan dengan pemasangan kawat tanah pada kedua penyulang telah memberikan hasil yang sangat baik dengan berkurang nya gangguan sebesar 30-60% untuk penelitian selama satu tahun.

"Dengan meningkatnya kebutuhan daya listrik yang semakin pesat akhir-akhir ini, keadaan lahan yang makin terbatas serta biaya investasi yang tinggi, menjadikan penggunaan penghantar termal (conductor thermal resistance) dianggap sebagai salah satu alternatif pemecah kebuntuan masalah dalam bidang transmisi daya listrik. Dewasa ini telah dikembangkan penghantar termal ACCR (Aluminium Conductor Composite Reinforced) yang dapat beroperasi sampai pada temperatur 240oC, sehingga dapat menaikkan kapasitas penyaluran dua sampai tiga kali lebih besar dari pada menggunakan penghantar konvensional ACSR.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik pembebanan arus terhadap unjuk kerja mekanis konduktor ACCR yang meliputi tegangan tarik, panjang pemuluran dan andongan, sehingga akan diketahui struktur konstruksi saluran transmisi yang sesuai dengan sifat konduktor ACCR. Hasil simulasi memperlihatkan, bahwa dengan mempertahankan ROW dan tower yang ada, penggunaan konduktor ACCR dapat meningkatkan kapasitas penyaluran sistem transmisi sekitar 100 % dibanding konduktor konvensional ACSR.

Mechanical Study on using of ACCR Thermal Conductor at 500 kV SUTET. At the height of electricity demand increasing recently, circumstance of environment more limited and also expense of high investment, making thermal conductor (conductor thermal resistance) considered to be one of alternative in the electricity transmission bottlenecks. These days it has been developed thermal conductor ACCR (Aluminium Conductor Composite Reinforced) which can operate with temperature up to 240oC, so that making the current carrying capacity being higher than conventional conductor.
This research aimed to study load current leading to mechanical characteristic ACCR conductor included tension, length of elongation and sag of conductor. Its expected to be good for develop in construction structure of transmission line which is appropriate to ACCR conductor characteristic. Based on this research it can be concluded that application of ACCR conductor improves transmission line capacities by 100 % on existing ROW and tower."
