"Extremum-seeking control tracks a varying maximum or minimum in a performance function such as output or cost. It attempts to determine the optimal performance of a control system as it operates, thereby reducing downtime and the need for system analysis. Extremum-seeking Control and Applications is divided into two parts. In the first, the authors review existing analog-optimization-based extremum-seeking control including gradient-, perturbation- and sliding-mode-based control designs. They then propose a novel numerical-optimization-based extremum-seeking control based on optimization algorithms and state regulation. This control design is developed for simple linear time-invariant systems and then extended for a class of feedback linearizable nonlinear systems. The two main optimization algorithms – line search and trust region methods – are analyzed for robustness. Finite-time and asymptotic state regulators are put forward for linear and nonlinear systems respectively. Further design flexibility is achieved using the robustness results of the optimization algorithms and the asymptotic state regulator by which existing nonlinear adaptive control techniques can be introduced for robust design. The approach used is easier to implement and tends to be more robust than those that use perturbation-based extremum-seeking control. The second part of the book deals with a variety of applications of extremum-seeking control: a comparative study of extremum-seeking control schemes in antilock braking system design; source seeking, formation control, collision and obstacle avoidance for groups of autonomous agents, mobile radar networks, and impedance matching. "

"Coupled drives apparatus adalah suatu sistem multivariabel yang dirancang untuk menunjukkan pengendalian kecepatan motor dan tension material. Sistem ini, dengan penggerak yang saling berinteraksi, banyak digunakan dalam aplikasi industri. Coupled drives apparatus mempakan sistem dengan dua masukan dan dua keluaran. Masukannya berupa dua buah motor DC, sedangkan keluarannya berupa kecepatan dan rension. Dalam tesis ini, dilakukan perancangan pengendali optimal kuadratik dan pra kompensator dengan menggunakan model-model diskrit, yang didapat dari respon lingkar terbuka sistem (kecepatan dan tension). Pengujian hasil perancangan sistem pengendali dilakukan dengan simulasi menggunakan program Matlab - Simulink dan memberikan hasil yang baik.

Coupled drives apparatus is a multivariable system designed to demonstrate how to control motor speed and material tension. This system, with an interacting drives, is used in many industrial application. Coupled drives apparatus is a two input - two output (TITO) system. The inputs are two dc motors, and the outputs are speed and tension. In this thesis, we design this system with quadratic optimal controller and pre compensator based on discrete models, which get from open loop speed and tension response. The result from controller system design tested with simulation using Matlab - Simulink, and the result is good."

"Dalam tesis ini akan dibahas tentang sistem penggerak pada pemrosesan lembaran logam dengan menggunakan dua buah motor listrik arus searah sebagai penggerak utamanya. Motor pertama dipergunakan untuk mengatur tingkat ketegangan dan motor kedua dipergunakan untuk mengatur laju pergeseran lembaran logam. Pengendalian menggunakan pengendali PID dilakukan untuk menjaga tingkat ketegangan (tension) dan laju pergeseran lembaran logam dengan cara mengatur tegangan pada kumparan jangkar motor. Persamaan dinamika sistem diturunkan berdasarkan karakterisilk elektromekanis, sehingga diperoleh model sistem dalam bentuk persamaan keadaan. Sistem yang diperoleh merupakan sistem multivariable dengan dua masukan dan dua keluaran. Untuk pengendalian, dirancang dekopler dan pengendali PID ditata dengan metode kurva reaksi Ziegler Nichols don metode henristik. Sisfem tersebut disimulasikan dengan menggunakan simulink dari software mathlab 6.5.

The thesis discusses is about the drive system of the metal sheet processing system using two DC electric motor as the prime mover. The first motor is used to control the tension of the metal sheet and the second motor is used to control the displacement rate of the metal sheet. PID controller is used to maintain tension level and displacement rate of the metal sheet by the regulation of voltage that op/lied to the armature of DC electric motor. The system 's dynamic equation is derived based on the electromechanical characteristic of DC motor and the elasticity of the metal sheet to obtain the system's model in the form of state equation. The system is a multi variable systems with two inputs and two outputs. Decoupler is designed to reduce the couple of the system. The Ziegler-Nichols and heuristic method is applied to find the parameter of PID controller. The system is simulated in a program using simulink front matlab 6.5 software."
