Souvatzi, Stella G., 1966-
""The study of households and everyday life is increasingly recognized as fundamental in social archeological analysis. This volume is the first to address the household as a process and as a conceptual and analytical means through which we can interpret social organization from the bottom up. In case studies from Neolithic Greece, Stella Souvatzi examines how the household is defined socially, culturally, and historically. Her study is enriched by an in-depth discussion of the framework for the household in the social sciences and the synthesis of many anthropological, historical, and sociological examples. It reverses the view of the household as passive, ahistorical, and stable, showing it instead to be active, dynamic, and continually shifting."--BOOK JACKET."

"The archaeology of Atlantic slavery has been widely studied in recent years, but less attention has been paid to the post-slavery system of indenture that transported contract labourers from South Asia, China and Africa to new lands. Colonial Mauritius has left abundant archaeological remains, not least the cemetery for slaves and freed slaves established at Le Morne in the nineteenth century. Analysis of aDNA has demonstrated that individuals buried at Le Morne were of Madagascan and East African (probably Mozambican) origin, testifying to the long-distance movement of slave labour."

Wason, Paul K.
"This book contends that despite traditional doubts, practical limitations, and contemporary critiques, a rigorous social archaeology is indeed possible. The early chapters outline what a productive social
archaeology might look like, covering such issues as the possibility and
prospect of cross-cultural social inference, the central importance of
archaeological theory and of social models, the nature of inequality, and the extraordinary effects rules for arranging statuses have on the character of life. The following section of the book offers a systematic review and critique of cross-cultural correlates of inequality. For
example, the ways in which residential buildings can vary are summarized and examined for how they might yield insight into a former status system. In the final chapter these correlates are used to
help answer the question, "Was catal Huyuk a ranked Neolithic town
in Anatolia?""

This thesis aims to understand the role of circulation space in kampung kota as a place for social and economic activities. Social interactions and economic activities happening in a certain place are analyzed based on the theory of ‘place as assemblage’, which views place as an entity that emerges from the interactions of its elements. A case study was conducted in Kampung Susun Akuarium where the circulation space differs physically from landed kampung kota. Analysis done from observations and interviews indicate that a transformation process occurs in the circulation space of the Kampung Susun Akuarium, which is temporary and happens repeteadly, turning it into a specific place for social and economic activities. This transformation does not eliminate the main function of circulation space."
