"Pada 10 Juni 1838 terjadi pembantaian 28 orang Aborigin oleh sekelompok kulit putih di Myall Creek, New South Wales. Sejak awal kedatangan kulit putih di Australia, konflik memang seringkali terjadi antara kaum Aborigin dengan pendatang kulit putih. Tetapi dalam tragedi pembantaian kaum Aborigin di Myall Creek tersebut, pertama kalinya Pemerintah Koloni menjatuhkan hukuman gantung terhadap para pelaku pembantaian. Skripsi ini mencoba untuk mengungkapkan terjadinya pembantaian kaum Aborigin di Myall Creek, kebijakan Pemerintah Koloni terkait pembantaian dan respon masyarakat atas kebijakan yang diterapkan Pemerintah Koloni. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode sejarah yang terdiri dari empat tahapan yaitu heuristik, kritik, interpretasi dan historiografi. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah George Gipps, gubernur daerah koloni New South Wales, menerapkan hukuman gantung terhadap orang kulit putih yang membunuh kaum Aborigin sebagai salah satu usahanya untuk menghapuskan sikap rasis kulit putih terhadap orang Aborigin. Respon masyarakat kulit putih atas kebijakan Gipps terpecah antara kalangan mayoritas yang menentang dengan kalangan minoritas yang mendukung kebijakan Gipps.

On June 10th 1838, there was a massacre of 28 Aborigines by a group of whites in Myall Creek, New South Wales. Since the whites arrived in Australia, it was often a conflict between Aborigines and white settlers. But the massacre of Aborigines at Myall Creek was the first time since Government Colonies gave the trial and sentence to death for the perpetrators of the massacre.

This thesis attempts to reveal the Aboriginal massacre at Myall Creek, Colony Government policies related to the massacre and the public responses to government policies. This research using historical methods which consist of four steps: heuristic, critic, interpretation and historiography.

The result of this research is George Gipps, the governor of the colony of New South Wales, applied death penalty to white people who killed the Aborigines as one of his efforts to abolish the white racist attitudes towards Aborigines. Response of the whites at the discretion of the Gipps torn between majority that opposed the policy and the minority that supported Gipps."
