ABSTRACTThis text is a short report of my experience with teaching the theories of Geiger and Noiré on the origin of language to 4th year students in Germanistik (German studies). The quality of these theories is very high and still prevailing. With them it is possible to discuss multiple strings of thoughts and to explain main developments in the intellectual history of German culture. Students can learn a lot about the history of science and language itself. The positive experiences I made with my students encourage me to suggest, that doing more work on Geiger and Noiré could profi t philosophical and linguistic research in general. But sadly enough, their thoughts are nearly forgotten and neglected today. In the following, I will show, that this is unjustified.
