ABSTRACT
This final assignment discusses about U.S. and Indonesia bilateral relations in year 2008 ? 2012. Bilateral relations between the two countries would be examined from three major paradigms in International Relations, which are Realism, Liberalism, and Constructivism. This discussion is intended to explain the closer-tied relationship between the U.S. and Indonesia in the particular period, and led to the creation of Comprehensive Partnership back in the year 2010. The relationship will be examined with the Balance of Interest theory in Realism, Democratic Peace theory in Liberalism, and ?Identity, Power, and Threat Perception? in Constructivism. The discussion concludes that the closer relationship of the two countries is shaped because of the similarity in ideology that leads to cooperation, while at the same time the cooperation is done to maximizing the opportunity and the potential from each other for the sake of pursuing national interests."

The focus of this final paper is to show how the three paradigms in International Relations Study see United States’ foreign aid to Indonesia in the US-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership framework. Realism sees that foreign aid can be used as the tool to achieve United States’ national interests; noliberalism sees that foreign aid will be easier to achieve its goals with the existence of institution formed by comprehensive partnership platform; while constructivism sees that foreign aid as an attempt of United States’ identity construction to Indonesia and international world.
