"This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 19th International Colloquium on Structural Information and Communication Complexity, SIROCCO 2012, held in Reykjavik, Iceland for 3 days starting June 30, 2012. The 28 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 54 submissions. SIROCCO is devoted to the study of communication and knowledge in distributed systems. "Qin and Fahringer present a novel workflow language called Abstract Workflow Description Language (AWDL) and the corresponding standards-based, knowledge-enabled tool support, which simplifies the development of scientific workflow applications. AWDL is an XML-based language for describing scientific workflow applications at a high level of abstraction. It is designed in a way that allows users to concentrate on specifying such workflow applications without dealing with either the complexity of distributed computing environments or any specific implementation technology. This research monograph is organized into five parts: overview, programming, optimization, synthesis, and conclusion, and is complemented by an appendix and an extensive reference list."

"Jaringan Interkoneksi Bertingkat Banyak adalah jaringan interkoneksi yang digunakan untuk melakukan interkoneksi antar prosesor dan antar memori pada sistem yang menerapkan proses paralel yang memiliki unjuk kerja yang baik, ekonomis dan kompleksitas perangkat keras yang rendah sehingga jaringan ini sangat cocok untuk digunakan pada sistem berskala besar.Untuk mengatasi masalah konflik lintasan jaringan pada jaringan interkoneksi yang bersifat blocking, pada penelitian ini akan diamati skema routing bebas konflik yang diperlukan terutama pada penerapan algoritma paralel yang melakukan komunikasi antar prosesor yang intensif seperti mengumpulkan data dari banyak prosesor ke satu prosesor dan menyebarkan data dari satu prosesor ke banyak prosesor.Skema routing dibuat berdasarkan struktur komunikasi Quadtree, yang menentukan prosesor-prosesor mana yang harus dikirim data sehingga proses pengumpulan dan penyebaran data dilakukan dalam log4 M langkah. Skema routing yang dibuat untuk jaringan baseline ini dapat juga diterapkan pada jaringan lain yang mempunyai topologi yang ekivalen.Pada penelitian ini dibuat analisis dan simulasi untuk mengamati pengaruh skema routing ini pada unjuk kerja jaringan interkoneksi. Unjuk kerja yang diperhatikan ialah delay, throughput dan waktu turn-arround dari sekumpulan paket. Parameter-parameter yang diubah ialah ukuran jaringan, ukuran switchbox, probabilitas aliran paket dan urutan/lintasan paket-paket yaitu, dengan diterapkan atau tidaknya skema routing bebas konflik."
