"Pemilihan bahasa (language choice) merupakan fenomena yang lazim terjadi pada masyarakat multibahasa. Dalam interaksi sosial pemilihan bahasa merupakan tindakan dalam menggunakan bahasa terpilih pada situasi tertentu. Ada berbagai faktor yang mempengaruhi seseorang dalam melakukan pemilihan bahasa. Makalah ini akan memaparkan hasil penelitian dari pemilihan bahasa yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa Kabupaten Kebumen yang ada di UI. Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk mengetahui aspek-aspek pemilihan bahasa pada mahasiswa Kebumen di UI. Sumber data diperoleh melalui kuesioner yang dibagikan pada 25 orang mahasiswa. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa responden memilih dan menggunakan bahasa yang berbeda untuk situasi dan kondisi yang berbeda.

Language choice is a common phenomenon that occurs in a multilingual society. In the social interaction, language choice is an act of using a selected language in certain situations. There are various factors that affect a person in committing language choice. This article will present the findings of the language choice on UI students from Kebumen Regency. This study was intended to find out the aspects of the language choice on the UI students from Kebumen. The data were collected through a questionnaire administered to 25 students. The findings of this study show that the respondents choose and use different languages ​​for different situations and conditions."
