"This book provides an overview of recent psycholinguistic and theoretical investigations on the interplay between structural syntactic relations and role semantics. The focus herein lies on the interaction of case marking and word order with semantic prominence features, such as animacy and definiteness. The interaction of these different sorts of information is addressed from theoretical, time-insensitive, and incremental perspectives, or a combination of these. Taking a broad cross-linguistic perspective, this book bridges the gap between theoretical and psycholinguistic approaches to argument structure."

The word “adinda” means ‘a term of endearment for a younger sibling’. This term, widely used before the 20th century, is rarely found in modern novel manuscripts. This research aims to trace the evolution of “adinda” in the Malay language from before the 20th century to the present day. The study utilizes qualitative methods, and its data consists of sentences containing the word “adinda”. The data sources include classic Malay texts such as Hikayat Raja-Raja Pasai (www.mcp.anu.edu.au) and Hikayat Pandawa Lima (www.mcp.anu.edu.au), 20th-century novels Wrong Upbringing (Abdoel Moeis) and The Sinking of van Der Wijck (Hamka), as well as 21st-century novels Cigarette Girl (Ratih Kumala) and Vengeance is Mine, All Others Pay Cash (Eka Kurniawan). Data was collected from digital documents and processed using the AntConc application for easier data analysis. Subsequently, the data was categorized into: 1) terms of address, 2) pronouns, and 3) kinship nouns. The results indicate a decline in the use of the word “adinda” over time. In texts before the 20th century, “adinda” served as a term of address, pronoun, and kinship noun. In the 20th century, it was used primarily as a term of address and pronoun, while in the 21st century, its usage was no longer found."
