Deurbanization of Jakarta has involved the demographic domination gradually overtaken by the districts and municipalities (Bodetabek). The spillover of urban people to urban periphery has shown the direct effects to the kampung dwellers (local people) in urban periphery. This research aims to look at how far the urban transition happen to local people at Karawaci especially the dynamics in consumption patterns. This research uses qualitative methods to answer the research questions, with in depth interview as the key to dig out the informations based on 3 generations. The result shows that the consumption pattern changes based on regional development. The first generation's consumption pattern was accompanied by the paddys and vegetables production. The second generation's consumption pattern was relatively same as the first generation, but the difference is, now the fulfillment of the consumption of rice and vegetables obtained from the market, unlike the first generation. The third generation's consumption pattern is now more complex caused by the spillover of urban people and the shopping centres that grow rapidly. The local consumption dynamics is affected by the social distance an physical distance between local people and urban people especially at the third generation, where the third generation is the generation which most local people interact with urban people."

"Empirical analysis has been made with three coastal urban centres in Queensland, by deriving estimated exponential urban density functions which emphasise the significance of the distance of the distance from the Central Business District of each urban centre. Temporal comparisons were carried out by urban centres and significant impications were drawn in connection with the degree of urbanization process as well as with the age of maturity of urban centres. Population projections for the selected urban centres were made for the year 1990 based on cross-section and time-series approaches."

Many cities are going through a massive urbanization. However, the many cases of urbanization happen in the fringes of the main cities and can be classified as an urban sprawl which one of the examples is in Depok, Indonesia. Due to this phenomenon, many lands and lakes that initially have the role of water recharge area are converted and reclaimed into a built-up area. This phenomenon then generates ecological issues and challenges to both the sprawl, Depok, and the main city, Jakarta, especially on the urban water system. The problem of the urban water system itself cannot be treated separately based on its location in particular districts. It needs to be addressed as a whole flow from the upstream to the downstream. This thesis aims to address the ecological damages in the water system caused by land conversion due to urban sprawling of Depok. This thesis further highlights the declining amount of urban open space (RTH) in Depok that acts as a water recharge area over the subsequent year due to land conversion and hindering its goal of reaching 30% urban open space (RTH) regulation.
