"Tesis ini mengangkat kampanye akal sehat sebagai salah satu wacana yang berkembang dalam Pemilu 2019. Retorika sebagai seni memengaruhi digunakan sebagai metode dalam mengkampanyekan akal sehat. Dalam tesis ini, retorika yang dikonseptualisasikan tidak hanya memuat retorika tradisonal Aristoteles, tetapi juga retorika dalam dunia pasca-kebenaran. Locus analisis tesis ini menggunakan retorika yang disampaikan Gerung dalam Diskusi Publik yang diselenggarakan Lintas Komunikasi Alumni Jerman (Linkom Aljer) pada Jumat 08 Februari 2019 di Kalibata, Jakarta Selatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkritisi makna akal sehat dalam retorika Gerung dan membongkar orientasi politik yang menggerakkan komunikator. Metode Analisis Wacana Kritis digunakan untuk mendekati objek penelitian pada tiga level berbeda: level teks, level praktik diskursif, dan level sosio-kultural. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa akal sehat dalam retorika Gerung pertama-tama bermakna sebagai kapasitas dalam menilai realitas. Penilaian atas realitas yang mengabaikan data dan fakta sebagai rekan episteme menjadikan kampanye akal sehat tersebut jatuh pada kecenderungan retorika pasca-kebenaran. Selain itu, tesis ini menunjukkan bahwa orientasi di balik retorika Gerung bercorak personal dan politis-strategis sekaligus.<

This thesis discusses about the campaign of common sense as a part of the developing discourses in Indonesian Election 2019. Rhetoric as an art of persuade is used as a method in campaigning common sense. The rhetoric concepted inside this thesis consist three main elements of communicator as contained in Aristotles rhetoric. There are ethos (ethic and credibility), pathos (emotional attachment), and logos (logic). In addition, common sense discourse is placed in the context of rhetoric in the post-truth world. Locus of analysis in this thesis is the rhetoric delivered by Gerung in a public discussion organized by Linkom Aljer on January 08, 2019. We use Norman Faircloughs Critical Discourse Analysis to uncover the meaning of common sense in Gerungs rhetoric and the orientation that drives communicators in discourse of common sense. For this reason, we use a three-dimensional analysis of the Fairclough model in approaching Gerungs rhetoric. The results of this study indicate that first of all, common sense in Gerungs rhetoric means as a capacity in assessing the reality. The assessment of reality that ignores data and facts makes the common sense campaign fall to the tendency of post-truth rhetoric. In addition, this thesis shows that the orientation behind Gerungs rhetoric is both personal and political-strategic at the same time."

"Penelitian ini membahas mengenai pengaruh identitas sosial terhadap dorongan untuk memilih masyarakat Kecamatan Cinere, Kota Depok. Hal ini berangkat dari rendahnya partisipasi pemilih masyarakat Kecamatan Cinere, Kota Depok, dalam tiga pelaksanaan pilkada terakhir seperti Pilgub Jabar tahun 2013, Pilwalkot tahun 2015, dan Pilgub Jabar tahun 2018. Tujuan dari penelitian ini ialah untuk mengetahui signifikansi pengaruh identitas sosial terhadap dorongan untuk memilih masyarakat Kecamatan Cinere, Kota Depok, sehingga memiliki partisipasi pemilih yang rendah dalam tiga pilkada terakhir. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori identitas sosial oleh Tracey Raney dan Loleen Berdahl, dan kemudian dipadukan dengan konsep identitas sosial perkotaan oleh Marco Lalli dan dorongan untuk memilih oleh Blais dan Galais. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif, dengan analisis uji kekuatan hubungan antar variabel Somers’D. Hasil dari temuan ini memperlihatkan bahwa dalam uji kekuatan hubungan terdapat pengaruh antara identitas sosial terhadap dorongan untuk memilih masyarakat Kecamatan Cinere, Kota Depok, meskipun dengan nilai Somers’D 0.327 atau bernilai lemah. Namun, temuan tersebut sudah mampu digeneralisasi ke tingkat populasi karena nilai signifikansi 0.000 < α (0,05). Temuan lain dalam penelitian ini menemukan bahwa dalam masyarakat yang tidak menggunakan hak suara dalam pilkada terakhir terakhir yakni Pilgub Jabar tahun 2018, terdapat pengaruh antara identitas sosial terhadap dorongan untuk memilih dengan nilai Somers’D 0.600 atau bernilai sedang. Temuan dalam penelitian ini pada akhirnya sesuai dengan argumen peneliti, yakni terdapat pengaruh antara identitas sosial terhadap dorongan untuk memilih masyarakat Kecamatan Cinere, Kota Depok.

This research discusses the impact of social identity toward the sense of duty to vote of the people in Cinere Subdistrict during the 2013 gubernatorial elections, the 2015 mayoral elections, and the 2018 gubernatorial elections. The purpose of this research is to measure the impact of social identity toward the sense of duty to vote of the people in Cinere Subdistrict. This research adopts the social identity theory developed by Tracey Raney and Loleen Berdahl, that is combined with the urban related identity concept developed by Blais and Galais. This research used a quantitative method and its variables are tested using the Somers’D method. Based on the findings of this research, social identity has, in fact, impacted the sense of duty to vote of the people in Cinere Subdistrict, even though it shows a 0.327 Somers’D value, which is considered relatively weak. Nonetheless, the findings of this research can still be generalized to the population level, as the significance is valued at 0.000 < α (0,05). In addition to that, this research also finds that based on the voters that didn’t use their voting rights during the 2018 gubernatorial elections, social identity has impacted the sense of duty to vote of the people in Cinere Subdistrict, that shows a 0.600 Somers’D value. The findings of this research clearly indicates that social identity does have an impact on the sense of duty to vote of the people in Cinere Subdistrict."

"ABSTRAKSejak awal penciptaannya, ajang kecantikan Miss Universe telah menarik banyak sambutan kontroversial dari banyak pihak. Terlebih, kritik terhadap ajang Miss Universe dan kontes kecantikan sejenis lainnya masih berlanjut hingga saat ini. Sehingga, pemilik terbaru dari organisasi Miss Universe, WME IMG mencoba melakukan terobosan baru dengan memperbarui wacana sekaligus slogan yang berjudul Confidently Beautiful . Konteks utama wacana barunya adalah mematahkan stereotip ajang Miss Universe dengan berfokus pada isu pemberdayaan perempuan. Artikel ini membahas apakah organisasi Miss Universe telah berhasil menjalankan strateginya dalam memecahkan stereotip kontes kecantikan yang dianggap hanya untuk mengotentikasi dan mengeksploitasi wanita. Temuan penelitian ini juga mengungkapkan bahwa isu-isu seperti objektivitas dan kapitalisme perempuan masih dapat ditemukan dalam ajang Miss Universe walaupun wacananya telah berubah. Studi ini memberikan kerangka gambaran untuk memahami mengapa ada objektivitas perempuan dan bagaimana cara kerjanya dalam kontes kecantikan.

ABSTRACTSince the very beginning of its creation, Miss Universe Pageant has attracted quite controversial acceptance from many parties. Moreover, criticism towards the Miss Universe Pageant and other similar beauty pageants still continue until now. As a result, the latest owner of Miss Universe Organization, WME IMG is trying to make a new breakthrough by renewing a discourse as well as a motto titled Confidently Beautiful . The main context of its new discourse is to break the stereotype of Miss Universe Pageant by focusing on women empowerment issues. This article examines whether Miss Universe Organization has succeeded in executing its strategy in breaking the stereotype of beauty pageant that is considered only to authenticate and exploit women. The research findings reveal that issues like women objectification and capitalism still can be found in Miss Universe eventhough its discourse has changed. This study provides a framework for understanding why women objectification exists and how it works in beauty pageant."

"ABSTRAKPemberitaan tentang PE (16 tahun) yang dituduh ‘khalwat’ oleh Wilayatul Hisbah (polisisyariah) menarik perhatian peneliti. Ruang lingkup larangan khalwat/mesum adalah segalakegiatan, perbuatan dan keadaan yang mengarah kepada perbuatan zina. Ini termuat dalam Pasal2 Qanun Aceh No 14 Tahun 2003 tentang Larangan Berbuat Mesum. Informasi penangkapan PEpun diberitakan oleh media. Berita tersebut mengatakan bahwa PE adalah pelacur dan pelakumesum. Keesokan hari PE ditemukan bunuh diri. Selang dua hari kemudian ditemukan suratyang berisikan tulisan tangan PE. Surat tersebut berisikan peryataan PE yang menyatakan bahwaia tidak jual diri seperti yang dituduhkan Dinas Syariat Islam Aceh.Tesis ini ingin mengetahui konstruksi pemberitaan PE di media dan hubungan antarapemberitaan dengan bunuh diri. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif, denganmenggunakan analis wacana kritis. Data penelitian adalah media yang memberitakan tentang PE.Penulis juga melakukan wawancara dengan keluarga PE yakni Ayah dan Makcik PE. Selain ituwawancara dengan pengelola media.Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada konstruksi negatif pada saat PE ditangkap oleh WH.Ada stigma kepada PE serta pelanggaran Kode Etik Jurnalistik. Namun pada saat PE ditemukanbunuh diri, stigma kepada PE semakin berkurang. Selain itu, penulis menyimpulkan bahwakonstruksi negatif berita membuat PE menjadi malu sehingga bunuh diri.

ABSTRACTThe news on media concerning PE (16 years old) who was accused of 'Khalwat orseclusion' by Wilayatul Hisbah (sharia police) has drawn attention from researcher. The scope oftheprohibition of seclusion and all nasty activities, actions and any circumstances that leadtofornication. This is written in Article 2 of Aceh Qanun No. 14 of 2003 on the ProhibitionofImmoral Act. The information about PE detention was reported by the media. Thenewspublished that the PE is a nasty whore and adulterers. On the next day PE was found dead.Two days later found a handwritten letter of PE.The letter contains a statement of PE that she has never swhored herself as allegedIslamic Law Office in Aceh. This thesis would like to explainthe social construction or the newsmaking of PE in the media and the relationship between thereporting of her suicide.This studyapplies qualitative research methods by using critical discourse analysts. The data in this researchis that media reports about PE.I conducted interviews with her family that is her father and her aunt. Besides, I alsoconducted interviewswith the media administrator. This study shows that there was a negativeconstruction at the time of PE was arrested by the WH.There found a stigma to PE as well asviolations of the Codeof Journalistic Ethics.However, when PE was found committed suicide,the stigma PEdecreased.In addition, the author conclude that the negative construction of newsmakingeffecting PE felt so disgrace and drove her to commit suicide."
