"Pemuda gay merupakan kelompok sosial yang rentan karena mengalami kekerasan secara mental maupun fisik di lingkungan sosialnya yang berdampak pada kesehatan psikologis yang rendah. Mekanisme mengatasi stres dilakukan sebagai respon secara kognitif maupun perilaku dalam merespon kejadian yang diluar kapasitas dan sumber individu. Masih sedikit studi sebelumnya bagaimana mekanisme mengatasi stres yang membahas dikalangan pemuda gay. Studi sebelumnya hanya membahas mengenai tema-tema umum strategi mengatasi stres dan sumber mengatasi stres yang dilakukan pemuda gay. Studi sebelumnya belum terlalu banyak membahas mengenai kompleksitas dari situasi yang berdampak pada strategi mengatasi stres. Padahal situasi menjadi penting karena memberikan atau membentuk sumber ndash; sumber yang tersedia bagi pemuda gay hingga berdampak pada strategi mengatasi stres. Oleh karena itu, studi ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan bagaimana strategi mengatasi stres pemuda gay berserta kompleksitasnya untuk mengatasi stres. Studi ini melahirkan beberapa argumen. Pertama, terjadinya proliferasi stres dalam perkembangan kehidupan pemuda gay. Kedua, pemuda gay menggunakan banyak strategi dalam mengatasi stres yang dibagi menjadi dua strategi, problem-focused dan emotion-focused. Ketiga, konteks sosial membentuk sumber mengatasi stres. Keempat, internet mempunyai peran ganda dalam proses mengatasi stres pemuda gay. Studi ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan wawancara secara mendalam enam pemuda gay yang berusia 16-30 tahun untuk menggambarkan makna dan kompleksitas yang terkandung dalam tindakan mengatasi stres

Gay youth are vulnerable social groups due to mental and physical abuse in their social environment which affects low psychological health. The stress coping mechanism is performed in response to cognitive and behavioral responses to events beyond the capacity and individual sources. There are still few previous studies on how to deal with stress that addresses gay youth. Previous studies have only addressed the general themes of stress coping strategies and stress-tackling resources by gay youth. Previous studies have not discussed too much about the complexity of situations that impact on coping strategies. Though the situation is important because it provides or forms the resources available to gay youth to impact on coping strategies. Therefore, this study aims to explain how strategies to cope with gay youth stress and its complexity to cope with stress. This study spawned several arguments. First, the proliferation of stress in the development of gay youth life. Second, gay youth use many strategies in dealing with stress that is divided into two strategies, problem-focused and emotion-focused. Third, the social context forms the source of coping with stress. Fourth, the Internet has a dual role in the process of coping with gay youth stress. This study used a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews of six gay men aged 16-30 years to describe the meaning and complexity contained in the action to cope with stress."
