"Public and scholarly interest in early adulthood has increased over the past decade, spurred by the dramatic social and developmental changes young people experience during this period and the consequences of their missteps. The family context, both the family of origin and family of procreation, has emerged as key settings shaping young adults’ success in navigating this period of the life course. While prior research has illuminated relationships between various family contexts and young adult outcomes, the chapters in this volume move the field forward in considering the dynamic interplay between family context, early adult development, and a range of outcomes. In this chapter, we synthesize four emergent themes from this volume : the role of family in pathways to adulthood, cumulative advantage and disadvantage in early adulthood, individual differences in young people’s skills and capacities for negotiating early adulthood, and the role of institutions in shaping early adulthood. "

"Penelitian ini menganalisa dinamika interalcsi dalam keluarga orangiua tunggal untuk memahami fami{v_/imctionirzg dengan Beavers Systems Model. Pendekatan lcualitatif digunakan untuk memperoleh deskripsi yang kaya mengenai keluarga orangtua tunggal dan keberfimgsiannya saat ini. Wawancara dilakukan terhadap 3 keluarga dan masing-masing keluarga diwakili oleh orangtua tunggal dan salah satu anaknya yang sesuai dengan kriteria yang telah ditentukan. Untuk mendukung data yang diperoleh, sebelum wawancara para panisipan diminta untuk mengisi instmmen Self-report Family Inventory (SFI) yang dikembangkan berdasarkan Beavers System Model.
Hasil analisis menunjukkan keunikan dari masing-masing keluarga orangtua tunggal dalam berfungsi. Saat ini, ketiga kasus menunjukkan tingkatan family functioning yang berbeda-beda, yaitu adeqzzaiefamilies, midrange mfxedfamilies, dan borderline famlies. Penelitian ini juga memperlihatkan adanya usaha untuk menyamakan famiy functioning masing-masing keluarga tunggal dengan kondisi mcreka sebelum menjadi kcluarga orangtua tunggal.

The study analyzed the dynamics of interactions in single-parent families in order to understand the family fiinctioning using the Beavers Systems Model. This qualitative study was conducted to provide rich descriptions of single-parent families and their functioning at this moment. Interviews were conducted with 3 families. Each was represented by the single parent and one ofthe children that were suitable for the research. In order to support the data, before the interviews, the participants were asked to iill in the Self-report Family Inventory (SFI) that was developed based on the Beavers Systems Model.
The analysis revealed the uniqueness of each single-parent families in their functioning. The three cases showed different levels of family functioning; adequate families, midrange mixed families and borderline families. This study also revealed the efforts of each family to match their family functioning with what they had before they became single-parent families.

"Keluarga memiliki peran dan fungsi dalam memproduksi kapital sosial. Perubahan struktur keluarga akan menghilangkan kapital sosial, hal ini dikarenakan ketidakhadiran orang tua yang berkerja diluar rumah. Jika kapital manusia yang dimiliki orang tua kebanyaakan dihabiskan di tempat kerja dan di tempat lain di luar rumah, maka keluarga tidak mampu berperan dalam memproduksi kapital sosial yang dibutuhkan anak dalam pencapaian prestasi belajarnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh struktur sosial ekonomi keluarga dan kapital sosial dengan prestasi belajar anak. Alat analisis yang digunakan adalah regresi logistik, karena variabel dependen (Y) dalam penelitian ini bersifat biner yang terdiri atas dua (2) kategori yaitu 0 dan1. Hasil penelitian berdasarkan hasil analisis logistik menunjukan bahwa secara simultan menunjukan variabel struktur sosial ekonomi keluarga dan kapital sosial dapat menjelaskan variabel prestasi belajar sebesar 30,6 % sedangkan 69,4% faktor lain yang menjelaskan variabel prestasi belajar. Hasil uji odds ratio menunjukan bahwa siswa yang memiliki struktur sosial ekonomi keluarga tinggi memiliki peluang untuk mendapatkan prestasi belajar tinggi sebesar 1,942 - 16,981 kali dibandingkan dengan siswa yang memiliki struktur sosial ekonomi keluarga rendah. Siswa yang memiliki kapital sosial keluarga tinggi memiliki peluang untuk mendapatkan prestasi belajar tinggi sebesar 2,239 - 38,846 kali dibanding siswa yang memiliki kapital sosial keluarga rendah.

The family has a role and function in producing social capital. Changes in family structure will eliminate social capital, this is due to the absence of parents who work outside the home. If the human capital of the parents is spent mostly in the workplace and elsewhere outside the home, the family is unable to play a role in producing the social capital that the child needs in achieving its learning achievements. This study aims to examine the influence of socio-economic structure of family and social capital with the children's learning achievement. The analytical tool used is logistic regression, because the dependent variable (Y) in this study is binary consisting of two (2) categories of 0 and 1. Result of research based on result of logistic analysis show that simultaneously show variable of social economic structure of family and social capital can explain variable of achievement learn equal to 30,6% while 69,4% other factor explain variable of learning achievement. The result of odds ratio test shows that students who have high socio-economic structure of family have opportunity to get high learning achievement equal to 1,942 - 16,981 times compare with student having low socioeconomic family structure. Students who have high family social capital have the opportunity to obtain high learning achievement of 2,239-38,846 times compared to students who have low family social capital."
