"Penerapan sistem client/server di Universitas Lampung merupakan hal yang perlu segera dilaksanakan untuk memaksimalkan pemanfaatkan teknologi informasi dalam pemrosesan data akademik, Pemrosesan data akademik dengan menerapkan jaringan client/server ditujukan untuk mengatasi berbagai masalah dan hambatan yang terjadi seperti dalam hal kelambatan dalam pemrosesan, tidak terjaminnya keaslian data, sulitnya validasi dan koreksi jika terjadi kesalahan pada data tersebut. Integrasi jaringan lokal yang terdapat di setiap fakultas menjadi jaringan intranet Universitas akan menjamin pemrosesan data secara keseluruhan menjadi lebih efisien dan produktif karena semua proses dikerjakan secara on-line. Dengan menggunakan sistem client/server dan pemrosesan terpusat, maka manajemen jaringan termasuk didalamnya sistem keamanan dan backup akan menjadi mudah. Pendekatan yang digunakan untuk merealisasi Teknologi lnformasi UPT Puskom dengan basis client/server adalah dengan menggunakan metodologi Top Down Model- Pemilahan secara jelas fungsi client/server dan model data menjadi acuan bagi rancangan system. Untuk mendukung kelancaran dan keberhasilan penerapan sistem client/server ini di Universitas Lampung, maka perlu dibentuk unit kerja baru yang disebut dengan End User Support. Fungsi unit kerja ini pada prinsipnya adalah untuk membantu pemakai dalam hal menampung segala permasalahan yang terjadi dan mencoba solusi terbaik bagi masalah tersebut. Fokus pembahasan ditekankan untuk menghasilkan suatu model yang dapat diterapkan untuk lingkungan kerja yang melibatkan banyak Magian (fakultas) dimana tingkat pengetahuan pemakai sangat terbatas. Eskalasi masalah Database history even/ menjadi kunci dalam penerapan tingkat pelayanan yang diinginkan.

The implementation of client/server system at Lampung University is very urgent to apply in order to maximize the use of information technology to process academic data. Academic data processing by using client/server system is proposed to solve problems such as slow processing, unsafe data, difficulty in data validation dan data correction.

The integration of Local Area Network at each faculties becomes a University inter networking will guarantee that the academic data processing more efficient and productive. By using client/server system with centralized data processing, network management including security and backup will be easier to be done. The approach of applying information technology at Computer Center Division (UPT Pusat Komputer) is Top Down Model methodology. The strike separation of client/server function and data model is used as a guide in designing client/sever system.

In order to support the implemention of client/server system at Lampung University successfully, it is important to build a new division called End User Support. The main function of this new division is to solve all user problems related to network troubles. The discussion of this thesis is focused on creating a model that can be applied in many environments (faculties) that the user knowledge is very limited."

"Modem SCPC (Single Channel Per Carrier) adalah modem satelit yang digunakan pada salah satu layanan jasa VSAT (Very Small Aperture Terminal) PT. Aplikanusa Lintasarta yang menuliki konfigurasi jaringan dengan menempatkan sejumlah modem SCPC di lokasi VSAT Hub Station yang masing_masing terhubung melalui komunikasi satelit dengan modem lainnya pada VSAT Remote Station. Selama ini modem-modem di Hub Station tersebut diatur dan dimonitor secara manual melalui panel muka (front panel) modem. Tetapi, karena jumlahnya semakin banyak dan lokasi yang tidak memungkinkan rnaka sangat suet dilakukan monitor secara manual terus menerus. Oleh karena itu, pada tubas akhir ini dibahas perancangan dan pembuatan suatu sistem alat bantu yang disebut Multi SCPC-modems Management (MSM), yaitu berupa piranti lunak aplikasi client/server yang berjalan pada sistem operasi Microsoft Windows (Windows NT, 9x, 2000) dan dibatasi pada manajemen 2 buah modem yang terhubung pada server melalui port serial (COM 1 dan COM2). Server tersebut melakukan kegiatan monitor (poll) status modem secara terus menerus, sehingga dapat mengetahui dan akan memberitahu segala peristiwa yang terjadi terhadap sistem (event sistem) seperti link modem terputus, modem tidak respon, status koneksi client dan laiiinya. Client dan server saling berkomunikasi melalui socket dengan protokol khusus yang dirancang untuk sistem ini, disebut Multi SCPC-modems Management Protocol (MSMP). Sistem MSM ini merupakan prototype yang perlu dikembangkan lebih lanjut agar dapat mengatur dan memonitor lebih dari dua buah modem, sehingga dapat membantu dalam meningkatkan efisiensi kerja kegiatan operasional jaringan VSAT, khususnya di Hub Station PT. Aplikanusa Lintasarta."
