"Uses of microorganisms in the civil engineering domain have been developed since several years ago. From several researches, microorganisms produced calcite was able to improve the mechanical properties of the soil and concrete. In the soil, they could increase the bearing capacity by producing calcite that would fulfill the pores of soil [Ivanov, 2008]. By reducing the pores, the soil will be more compact and it can increase its capacity. On the concrete material, it could be used to fix the cracking in the concrete or it could [Achal et.al. 2010] be used in mix design which able to improve the strength of concrete. The type of the bacteria which can produce calcite is from genera Bacillus. Growth of Bacillus subtilis studied in this paper was observed in laboratory of Microbiology at Universite Lille 1."

"Pertumbuhan jumlah penduduk yang tidak diikuti dengan penambahan jumlah luas lahan merupakan suatu masalah yang dihadapi pada saat ini. Terbatasnya jumlah lahan yang tersedia menyebabkan lahan gambut yang tergolong ke dalam tanah lunak juga dimanfaatkan untuk lahan pembangunan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa nilai kerapatan kering, California Bearing Ratio (CBR) dalam kondisi unsoked dan soaked tanah gambut OKI Sumatera Selatan terhadap penambahan mikroorganisme selulotik potensial asli. Secara konvensional, penambahan mikroorganisme dilakukan dengan cara diaduk dan dilakukan penambahan volume sebanyak 5% dari berat tanah dan konsentrasi mikroorganisme sebanyak 1010. Setelah dilakukan pencampuran tanah difermentasi selama 60 hari dan diamati peningkatan nilai kerapatan kering dan CBR dari kondisi tanah asli tidak terjadi perubahan yang signifikan.

Population growth which is not followed by the addition of the vast amount of land is a problem faced at the moment. The limited amount of available land led to peatland which categorized to the soft ground is also used for land development. This study aims to analyze the dry density value , CBR in unsoked conditions and soaked to the addition of microorganisms selulotik original potential. Conventionally, the addition of microorganisms is done by stirring and the addition of volume as much as 5% of the weight of the soil and the concentration of microorganisms as many as in 1010. After mixing the ground fermented for 60 days and observed an increase in the value of dry density and CBR of the original soil conditions but not significant changes."
