"Produksi Carbon Nanotube (CNT) mengalami permasalahan dengan terbatasnya hasil CNT jenis Aligned yang dikarenakan oleh belum ditemukannya metode sintesis yang efektif dan ekonomis. Pada penelitian ini sintesis ACNT dilakukan melalui reaksi dekomposisi katalitik metana dengan metode Water-Assisted Chemical Vapor Deposition (WA-CVD) pada reaktor katalis terstruktur pelat sejajar dan reaktor fixed bed. Katalis yang digunakan adalah Fe-Ni/Al2O3 yang dipreparasi dengan metode sol-gel/dip-coating serta Ni-Cu-Al yang dipreparasi dengan metode kopresipitasi.
Hasil karakterisasi karbon dengan Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) menunjukkan produk nanokarbon dengan jenis yang bervariasi, yaitu carbon nanotube, bamboo-shaped carbon dan carbon onion quasi-spherical Berdasarkan perbandingan hasil dengan metode tanpa penambahan air, CNT yang dihasilkan cenderung tumbuh tegak walaupun belum terbentuk secara rapi dan seragam. Selain itu, jumlah CNT yang dihasilkan lebih banyak dan memiliki kemurnian yang sangat baik. Hal tersebut menunjukkan peran air yang secara signifikan dapat meningkatkan kualitas CNT.

Carbon Nanotube (CNT) production have a problem with the limitation of Aligned CNT product caused by the effective and economic method that has not been found. This research used catalytic decomposition of methane with Water-Assisted Chemical Vapor Deposition (WA-CVD) method by using bench-scale plate structured catalyst reactor and fixed bed reactor. Catalyst Fe-Ni/Al2O3 prepared by sol-gel/dip-coating and Ni-Cu-Al prepared by co-precipitation were used to make CNT.
Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) results shows there are various types of nanocarbon produced, such as carbon nanotube, bamboo-shaped carbon and also carbon onion quasi-spherical. Regarding to a comparison with without adding water vapor method, CNT which obtained tend to grow vertically eventhough have not formed uniformly. In addition, the amount of CNT is higher and have a high purity. It shows that the role of water vapor significantly increasing the quality of CNT.
