"ABSTRAKSkripsi ini bertujuan memahami ide penjara di dalam film sebagai uncanny space. Uncanny merupakan kondisi ketika terkuaknya sesuatu yang tersembunyi. Penguakan tersebut menciptakan kondisi perubahan dari familiar menjadi unfamiliar. Pembahasan mencakup kondisi uncanny di dalam arsitektur maupun di dalam film. Kemudian dilakukan studi kasus melihat representasi penjara di dalam film fiksi The Shawshank Redemption dan Starred Up yang menceritakan kehidupan di dalam penjara. Hasil pengamatan pada studi kasus mengemukakan kualitas-kualitas di dalam film yang merepresentasi ide uncanny tersebut. Dari penelusuran yang dilakukan menunjukkan bagaimana elemen-elemen bekerja di dalam sistem mekanisme yang dapat menciptakan kondisi uncanny. Sehingga kondisi tersebut dapat dipahami lebih lanjut dalam arsitektur.

ABSTRAKThis study aims to understand the idea of prison in the film as an uncanny space. Uncanny is a feeling provoked by the return of the repressed. This revealing of the hidden secret create a transform state from familiar to unfamiliar. The study examines further the conditions uncanny in architecture as well as in the film. It uses case study to find the representation of prison in the fiction film ? The Shawshank Redemption and Starred Up ? which tells of life in a prison. The findings shows the qualities in a film that represents the idea of the uncanny. The searches show how the elements work on mechanic system to create uncanny condition. Therefore, this condition can be more understood in architecture."
