"This book views criticism as a way to step back and look at an educational intervention within educational technology through a particular critical lens. "Kajian literatur ini bertujuan memetakan pemikiran dan tindakan yang telah berkembang mengenai isu pembangunan berkelanjutan. Kajian ini mengidentifikasi dua pendekatan besar dalam memahami pembangunan berkelanjutan. Pendekatan problem-solving lebih memperhatikan teknis pengelolaan manfaat dan resiko dari daya guna lingkungan hidup bagi pembangunan melalui proses pembuatan dan penerapan keputusan pada tingkatan internasional, domestik negara, maupun daerah. Sedangkan pendekatan kritis lebih menelisik relasi power dalam globalisasi pola produksi dan konsumsi yang mempengaruhi posisi berbagai pihak yang berbeda dalam merasakan manfaat dan resiko dari daya guna lingkungan. Kedua pendekatan tersebut tidak selalu terpisah atau bertentangan. Namun pembagian tersebut dapat memudahkan sebagai acuan untuk membingkai bagaimana hubungan antara pembangunan dan lingkungan hidup telah diperlakukan dalam sistem hubungan antar negara-bangsa.

This literature review is intended to lay out ideas and actions that have been developed concerning the issue of sustainable development. This review identifies two general approaches in understanding the relations between development and environmental condition in sustainable development. Problem-solving approach is more concerned with technical management of benefits and risks in utilizing the environment for development purposes, through decision making and implementation processes at international, domestic, and local levels. While critical approach investigates power relations in the globalized patterns of production and consumption which affect the position of various actors in experiencing the benefits and risks from the utilization of the environment for development. The two approaches are not mutually exclusive, but the categorization may help to frame how the relations between development and the environment have been treated in the system of inter-state relations."
