"Summary:
[In this book, the author] tells the behind-the-scenes story of how President George W. Bush and his top national security advisers, after the initial shock of the September 11 attacks, led the nation to war. Extensive quotations from the secret deliberations of the National Security Council - and firsthand revelations of the private thoughts, concerns and fears of the president and his war cabinet - make [the book a] chronicle of a modern presidency in time of grave crisis. Based on interviews with more than a hundred sources and four hours of exclusive interviews with the president, [it] reveals Bush's sweeping, almost grandiose, vision for remaking the world. [It] includes a ... portrait of CIA director George Tenet, ready and eager for covert action against terrorists in Afghanistan and worldwide. It [also] follows a CIA paramilitary team leader on a covert mission inside Afghanistan to pay off assets and buy friends with millions in U.S. currency carried in giant suitcases.-Dust jacket"

The war that took place in Afghanistan as a result of 9/11 event has inspired Hollywood to create many movies which often address and stereotype Muslim communities in the country. This representation, however, shifts from time to time. Nowadays, Hollywood no longer completely depicts Muslim characters as totally the opposite of the Western world. 12 Strong (2018), for example, is one of the Afghan war movies that is celebrated for presenting a seemingly positive Muslim representation. This is depicted in how the Muslim characters unite with the American characters in the film to fight terrorism. This essay seeks to further examine how Muslims are represented in 12 Strong by using Edward Said’s Orientalism –framework. Findings in this article demonstrate that the film produces a polarization of “good” Muslims and “bad” Muslims in which one is juxtaposed with the other and with an exclusive focus on Muslim men. Furthermore, the characterization of the “bad” Muslims is constructed from a combination of the perspectives of the American characters and the Muslim Afghan characters, while the characterization of “good” Muslims in the film is constructed from the Americans’ point of view. Thus, instead of providing a critical representation of Muslims in an Afghan context, this film reproduces polarized narratives similar to previous Hollywood movies that depict Islam."

The issue of Moslem and Westerners has been getting popular after September 11, 2001. The topic about Islam and terrorism has become a negative issue in the news report and mass media. Much opinion and representation about Islam and terrorism appeared from all over mass media. It is obvious that media has big roles in developing the issue of Islam and terrorism. The thesis is written to analyze how Newsweek as a printed media describing Islam in their news. From the analysis, we can see that Newsweek tried to comprehend Islam and terrorism, supported by much data, analysis, and argumentation from the columnists. The result is Newsweek can clearly distinguish between Islam as a general and the radical terrorists. However, if we analyze critically, it could be seen that Newsweek tends to support the issue developed by US government about Islam and terrorists."

In 2003, United States conduct a military operation in Iraq to topple the Saddam Hussein's Ba'athist regime and replace it with a stable democracy government. The major combat operations in the so-called "Operation Iraqi Freedom" which occurred from March 20, 2003 to April 9, 2003, is described to represent the achievement of a revolution in military affairs by the United States military. Seven years prior to the operation, the United States Department of Defense published "Joint Vision 2010", a conceptual template for how United States' Armed Forces will channel the capabilites to achieve a revolution in military affairs. The operational concepts which included in the document proofed to be implemented successfully seven years later in Operation Iraqi Freedom. This research try to analyze the major contributing factors to the implementations of Joint Vision 2010 in Operation Iraqi Freedom, which come to the conclusion that the implementation has been achieved succesfully because of four capabilites that United States' Armed Force possessed: speed, precision, situational awareness and jointness."
