"In this book, the author suggests that firms have basically two options to control project work beyond their boundaries and beyond their vertical command chains. The assumption is discussed against various theories of the firm as well as control theory and empirically tested by analyzing firm engagement in Eclipse open source projects as well as communication work in the Linux kernel project."

"Firms without research and development (R&D) have frequently been neglected by mainstream innovation research. The small number of existing studies provides only fragmented and sometimes even contradictory findings, because they assume that non-R&D-performing firms show a “typical”, homogeneous innovation pattern. Oliver Som challenges this assumption. Based on current firm-level data of the German industry, he provides pioneer quantitative evidence of five heterogeneous innovation patterns of non-R&D-performers. The findings impressively underline the need for future innovation research, management and policy to extend their view on innovation beyond the scope of R&D."

"In several parts of the world, countries are undergoing economic, social, and political transitions, enhanced and accelerated by the forces of globalization. These transition economies can serve as laboratories for understanding the innovation process. This volume features original theoretical and empirical research. It offers the first comprehensive view of innovation system development in the context of small catching-up economies. Smallness, path dependency, and latecomer status of such economies create some inherent limitations for their innovation systems, but these special characteristic. "

"This book overturns nostalgic stereotypes of antiquated storekeepers, suggesting that nineteenth and early twentieth-century grocers were important but unsung innovators of business models and retail technologies that fostered the rise of contemporary retailing. They wrestled with fundamental changes in the structures of retailing and commercial capitalism, including the development of mass production, distribution, and marketing; the growth of regional and national markets; the emergence of new organizational and business methods; and the introduction of retail technologies such as the cash register. Yet today we know very little about the considerable achievements of small businessmen and their corner stores and even less about their major contributions to the making of modern commercial enterprise in the United States. Combining the archival sources and storekeepers stories along with sales records, credit reports, and legislative efforts, the book explores how evolving commercial, legal, and social institutions changed the course and development of the grocery trade. This story is told through grocers eyes, illuminating the day-to-day problems, challenges, and tasks associated with running small businesses and showing how local retailers made possible a national grocery trade.

"ABSTRACT
This study aims to analyze innovation diagnostic in micro, small, and medium enterprises in Depok. The measurement of this innovation process refers to the measurement of Innovation Diagnostic Diamond proposed by Mazzarol and Reboud (2006), measuring the innovation capacity of the company in terms of market, innovation, strategy, and resources. The data are collected through questionnaires distributed to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The SMEs selected as samples of this study is 99 SMEs in Depok and 112 SMEs in Solo. The findings of the study show SMEs as an active innovator by presenting the profile of SMEs and the perception of the context of existing innovations. The obstacles in innovation learning are related to human resources, the implementation of technology and the access to capital. "

There is a paradox in platform-based open innovation where the digital Multi-Sided Platform (MSP) startups with low initial co-creation capacity is able to implement open innovation strategy that commonly needs a high level of co-creation capacity. This research address this gap by the theoretically develop the relationship between effectual logic - entrepreneurial action that deal with a set of means as given and focuses on selecting between possible effects that can be created with that set of means - and open innovation process with co-creation capacity as its pre-condition to contribute to digital Multi-Sided Platform (MSP) startups significant growth. In this case, this research examine the platform-based open innovation process under resource constraint, limited knowledge, and uncertainty.
The quantitative research findings from 70 digital MSP startups show the shortest path for digital MSP startups to produce Innovation Performance is starting from develop Effectual Logic, then Integrative Capabilities and Co-Creation Capacity, and Innovation Performance afterwards. However, in this shortest path, Crowds or Communities Management Practices also have roles in partially mediating the relationship between Effectual Logic and Integrative Capabilities. Platform-based innovation becomes the integrating point of effectuation theory from entrepreneurship research and open innovation strategy from strategic management research. The bridge for these two areas suggests implications for platform-based innovation research in strategic entrepreneurship.
