"For much of the twentieth century, the intellectual life of the Ottoman and Arabic-Islamic world in the seventeenth century was ignored or mischaracterized by historians. Ottomanists typically saw the seventeenth century as marking the end of Ottoman cultural florescence, while modern Arab nationalist historians tended to see it as yet another century of intellectual darkness under Ottoman rule. This book is the first sustained effort at investigating some of the intellectual currents among Ottoman and North African scholars of the early modern period. Examining the intellectual production of the ranks of learned ulema (scholars) through close readings of various treatises, commentaries, and marginalia, Khaled El-Rouayheb argues for a more textured - and text-centered - understanding of the vibrant exchange of ideas and transmission of knowledge across a vast expanse of Ottoman-controlled territory."

"ABSTRAK
Disertasi ini mengkaji teks Syattariyyah wa muhammadiyyah (disingkat SWM)
milik Muhammad Hilman, Rama Guru Syatariyah di Pengguron Kaprabonan
Cirebon.
tetapi melalui Syaikh Abdullah bin Abdul Qahhar; kedua, Tarekat
Muhammadiyah adalah nur Muhammadiyah. Cara untuk memperoleh nur
Muhammad melalui martabat tujuh; ah}adiyah, wah}dah, wa>h}idiyah, ?alam arwa>h},
?alam ajsa>m, ?alam mis\a>l, dan insa>n ka>mil.

ABSTRACT
The dissertation analyzes the text of Syat}t}a>riyyahwa Muh}ammadiyyah
(abbreviated as SWM) using philological theory and sufism perspective. This
text belongs to Muhammad Hilman, the sufi leader of Tarekat Syattariyah in
PengguronKaprabonan Cirebon. Because SWM is one of the most important
primary texts in explaining the characteristics of Islam in the region, what being
investigated in the text is how to provide primary source of Cirebon?s Islam.
Thus, it is mainly aimed to provide text edition using critical edition method. In
addition, it is also aimed to analyze the characteristics? of the two tarekats, as
SWM intensively discussed Syatariyah and Muhammadiyyah. At least five
characteristics of Cirebon?s Syatariyah were apparent, namely writing system,
illustration, teachings, its particular networking and genealogy. Its genealogy is
distinct in the sense that it does not originate from Syaikh Abdul Muhyi or
Abdurrauf as-Sinkili, but instead it is from Syaikh Abdullah bin Abdul Qahhar.
As for Muhammadiyah, it is NurMuhammadiyah which is obtained through
seven martabat, namely ah}adiyah, wa>h}idiyah, wah}dah, ?alamarwa>h}, ?alamajsa>m,
?alammis\a>l, and insa>n ka>mil"

Financial statement analysis for Islamic banks, the implications for fund management for equity investing and the impact of loan defaults on Islamic and conventional banks are also included. Each chapter concludes with a set of questions designed to test the reader's understanding of each case, with suggested solutions at the end of the book./ This book is a must have resource for those wishing to apply their understanding of this complex subject and is an essential read for anyone seeking practical examples of how to apply the concepts in a real world environment"

"Just like the Gutenberg revolution in the fifteenth century, which led to the emergence of non-conventional religious authority in the Christian world, the current information technology revolution, particularly through mediums such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter, has triggered the re-construction and decentralization of religious authority in Islam. New santri (pious individuals) and preachers emerged from the non-conventional religious educational system. They not only challenged the traditional authorities, but also redefine and re-conceptualize old religious terminologies, such as hijra and wasatiyya. This book explores the dynamics of religious authority in Indonesia with special attention to the challenges from the "new santri". It is a rich and important book on religion. I recommend students of religion in Indonesia and other countries to read it.Ahmad Syafi'i Maarif, Professor Emeritus of History at Yogyakarta State UniversityAn important and timely volume that addresses the changing nature of Islamic leadership in the world's most popular Muslim country. This book debunks many (mis)perceptions that Indonesia Islam is monolithic. It also redefines dominant characterization of Islam by Orientalist scholars, such as santri and abangan Muslims.Haedar NashirChairman of MuhammadiyahThis edited volume evaluates the new development of Islamic scholarship and authority in Indonesia. Things have changed significantly in recent times that make many observers and researchers wondering: has Indonesia moved from traditional authorities, mainstream Islamic organizations, and the established scholarship to the new actors, movements and platforms? Has the change occurs owing to the democratization and political reforms that took place in the last twenty years or are there other factors we need to take into account? The contributors in this book provide possible answers from many different areas and perspectives. It's a must-read!Nadirsyah HosenMonash University, Australia"
