"AbstractEconomic development in the SouthEast Asia, which is at the stage of industrialization, has high dependency on energy consumption. This paper examines the relationship between energy consumption and economic development in the region. Using cross-sectional data, this study find the relationship between energy demand ­and per capita GDP, population and industrial share of output. Oil contributes 80% to energy consumption followed by electricity and natural gas. The result also shows no evidence of relationship between economic crisis and energy consumption. It suggest diversification of energy use and promoting more efficient alternative energy source to increase economic growth."

"AbstractIndonesia Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA) is the first bilateral economic agreement for Indonesia. IJEPA is expected to increase Indonesia manufacture industry competition because the establishment of USDFS and MIDEC. Post IJEPA, Price-cost margins (PCM) fluctuated. PCM has been generally used as a competition indicator, because PCM related to average profit of an industry. This study uses panel data of large and small industry within 2004-2012 periods. This study conclude that IJEPA able to make PCM of manufacture industry fall through efficiency of input factors use, the cost of materials price downfall, and economies of scale in certain industries.AbstrakIndonesia Japan Economic Partnership Agreement (IJEPA) merupakan perjanjian kerja sama ekonomi bilateral yang pertama untuk Indonesia. IJEPA diharapkan mampu meningkatkan kompetisi industri manufaktur karena disepakatinya fasilitas khusus untuk peningkatan kapasitas dan daya saing industri manufaktur, yaitu USDFS dan MIDEC. Setelah IJEPA, Price-cost Margins (PCM) Indonesia berfluktuasi. PCM digunakan sebagai indikator persaingan, dikarenakan berhubungan dengan keuntungan rata-rata di sebuah industri. Studi ini menggunakan data panel industri besar dan sedang periode 2004-2012. Dari studi ini disimpulkan bahwa IJEPA mampu menurunkan PCM industri manufaktur Indonesia dengan efisiensi faktor input produksi, penurunan biaya bahan baku industri, dan pencapaian skala ekonomi pada industri tertentu."

"ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan informasi terkini dan komparatif mengenai kegiatan merger dan akuisisi. Temuan pada penelitian ini telah menunjukkan bahwa Vietnam sangat aktif dalam kegiatan merger dan akuisisi, misalnya di Vietnam 2946 transaksi diumumkan 2114 telah selesai dalam dekade terakhir. Selanjutnya, Vietnam memiliki unsur khas untuk mengabungkan perusahaan lokal; Berdasarkan 20 transaksi teratas, pada 18 perusahaan target transaksi dan yang akan dilakukan keduanya berasal dari Vietnam. Di sisi lain, Sri lanka memiliki presentase transaksi M & A terlengkap dalam satu dekade terakhir dibandingkan dengan Pakistan dan Vietnam. Dalam kasus Pakistan, temuan tersebut menunjukkan bahwa Pakistan memiliki jumlah transaksi Merger dan Akuisisi berdasarkan jumlah tertinggi dibandingkan dengan Sri Lanka dan Vietnam. Menariknya, meski jumlah transaksi lebih tinggi dibanding Sri Lanka dan Vietnam; Namun, merger dan akuisisi tidak memiliki dampak signifikan paa profitabilitas perusahaan Pakistan."

"Over the last decade of Indonesia's fiscal decentralization era, the amount of intergovernmental fiscal transfers has increased substantially. The increase of intergovernmental fiscal transfers is expected to reduce the burden of local economy without sacrificing the quality of public service. This study aims to investigate whether the block grant transfer affect the spending behavior of local government. Using Pool Least Square method and taking East Kalimantan Province as case study, this study found the existance of flypaper effect. This finding emphasize the view of any increase in block grant of transfer will only induce higher spending. Therefore, in order to achieve the independency of local government as the objective of decentralization, some efforts should be taken to minimize the impact of flypaper effect."
