"ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana implementasi kebijakanpenyiangan di perpustakaan Universitas Indonesia (UI) dan hamatan apa saja yangdialami oleh pustakawan dalam pengimplementasian keijakan penyiangan diperpustakaan UI. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatankualitatif. Metode pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara, dan analisisdokumen. Informan dalam penelitian ini adalah kordinator dalam kegiatanpenyiangan di perpustakaan UI dan staf pelaksana kegiatan penyingan di perpustakaan UI. Tekniok wawancara yang diopakai adalah depth interview.Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan ahwa implementasi keijakan penyingan diperpustakaan UI tidak sesuai dengan Prosedur Operasional Standar (POS) keijakanpenyiangan di perpustakaan UI. Hal ini terjadi karena POS tidak sesuai dengankriteria koleksi dan pengguna perpustakaan UI. Hambatan yang didapat di dalamimplemetasi ini adalah POS yang tidak sesuai dengan kriteria koleksi dan pengguna,tempat penyimpanan sementara bagi koleksi yang telah disiangi. Perlunya perbaikanterhadap POS kebijakan penyiangan sebaiknya dilakukan agar hamatan yang dialami dapat diatasi dan koleksi perpustakaan menjadi lebih mudah digunakan pagi para pengguna.

ABSTRACTThis study aims to determine how the weeding policy implementation in the library of University of Indonesia (UI) and what are the barriers faced by librarians inweeding policy implementation in the UI library. This study uses descriptivequalitative approach. Method of data collection with interviews, and document analysis. Informants in this study is the coordinator of the activities of weeding in the UI library and the staff of weeding activities in UI library. Interviewing techniques are use depth interviews.These results indicate that the implementation of the UI library weeding policy is not in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) weeding policies in the UI library. This happens because the POS is not in accordance with the criteria of the collection and the UI library users. Barriers obtained in the implementation of this is a SOP that does not fit the criteria and user collection, temporary storage space for the collection has been weeded. The need for improvements to the SOP policies weeding should be done in order to overcome barriers experienced and library collections easier to use early users."

"Weeding merupakan salah satu aktivitas di perpustakaan yang sulit dilakukan. Pustakawan harus menilai dengan sangat hati-hati bila akan melaksanakan weeding pada sebuah bahan perpustakaan. Ia akan merasa bersalah bila bahan perpustakaan yang di weeding kemudian dibutuhkan pemustaka. Namun jajaran bahan perpustakaan di rak yang dipenuhi dengan bahan perpustakaan yang tidak terpakai akan menyulitkan pemustaka mendapatkan informasi yang dibutuhkan. Untuk menghindari terjadinya protes dari stakeholders perpustakaan harus membuat dokumen kebijakan weeding yang dipersiapkan dengan baik, sehingga stakeholders mengerti manfaat dilakukannya weeding dan masalah yang ditimbulkan bila perpustakaan tidak melaksanakan weeding, walaupun belum banyak yang melakukan hal itu. Perpustakaan IPB memisahkan koleksi buku dengan tahun terbit 1990 kebawah sebelum melakukan weeding pada koleksi tersebut."
