"Urban environments are expanding globally as the number and proportion of humans that live in cities continue to increase. The discipline of urban ecology is also expanding as interest surges in the ecological impacts of urbanization and the diverse ways in which urban environments can affect their human and non-human residents --
This book provides an accessible introduction to urban ecology, using established ecological theory to identify generalities in the complexity of urban environments. Engaging yet scholarly, it examines the biophysical processes of urbanization and how these work together to influence (a) the characteristics of urban environments in developed and developing countries, and (b) the dynamics of urban populations, communities and ecosystems. With a strong international focus, it also explores the ecology of humans in cities and discusses practical strategies for conserving biodiversity and maintaining ecosystem services in urban environments. Finally, it argues that existing ecological theory is appropriate for understanding the ecology of urban environments across all levels of organization, from individual organisms to entire ecosystems; effective science and management need not wait on a new theory of urban ecology --
Designed as a text book for upper-level undergraduate and postgraduate students, Ecology of Urban Environments will also be an invaluable resource for researchers and policy-makers in the urban sphere --Book Jacket."

The research area is located in the Klapanunggal Formation, Klapanunggal District, Bogor Regency, West Java Province with an age of Middle Miocene to Late Miocene. The purpose of this study was to identify the age range of the lithology, facies characteristics, and paleoecological condition of the Klapanunggal Formation. The methods that used in this research were field data collection, stratigraphic cross-sectional measurement, petrographic analysis, and micropaleontological analysis. Based on macroscopic analysis trough field data and microscopic analysis through petrographical analysis, five facies classifications were obtained in the research area, namely Larger Foraminifera Floatstone, Larger Foraminifera Rudstone, Coral Bindstone, Skeletal Floatstone, and Skeletal Rudstone. Based on the distribution of benthic foraminifera in the area, namely Alveolinella quoyi, Amphistegina lessonii, Amphistegina radiata, Archaias angulatus, Asterorotalia yabei, Borelis melo, Elphidium craticulatum, Operculina ammonoides, Operculina complanata, Pyrgo depressa, Sphaerogypsina globulus, and Triloculina oblonga, reflecting light intensity in the mesophotic to oligophotic zone attached to coarse and fine grained substrates with sea water depths up to 50 meters under the sea level and having normal to hypersaline salinities. Living in tropical zone which have low nutrient content, so foraminifera are in symbiosis with algae which act as food sources for organisms."

"Sustainable urban environments : an ecosystem approach presents fundamental knowledge of the built environment. Approaching the topic from an ecosystems perspective, it shows the reader how to combine diverse practical elements into sustainable solutions for future buildings and cities. From urban ecology to material, water and energy use, from urban transport to livability and health. The authors introduce and explore a variety of governance tools that support the transformation process, and show how they can help overcome institutional barriers. The book concludes with an account of promising perspectives for achieving a sustainable built environment in industrialized countries. Offering a unique overview and understanding of the most pressing challenges in the built environment, Sustainable urban environments helps the reader grasp opportunities for integration of knowledge and technologies in the design, construction and management of the built environment.

Cisaar Valley in Sumedang is one of the newest locations in the research of vertebrate palaeontology in Java. In 2019, a team from the Geology Agency (Badan Geologi) and Bandung Geological Museum conducted an initial survey and succeed to excavated several paleontological findings in the Cisaar Valley. The excavation point is divided into five locations, with each representing several depositional environments and rock units in the Citalang formation. This study focuses on the initial description and fossilisation process of each finding. The findings were described as 31 types of finds/groups of findings, dominated by vertebrate fossils. Several faunas, such as Proboscidae, Bovidae and reptiles, were identified, reflecting the dominance of the Cisaat fauna group. In terms of fossilization, the findings have undergone alterations such as oxidation, bioapatite mineral dissolution and secondary calcite mineral precipitation. These processes are greatly influenced by the characteristics of the lithologies, reaction with an external fluid, and the depositional environment. Based on the presence of identified faunas, Paleoecology in the Cisaar Valley can be interpreted as two phases of environmental setting. The first environment is dominated by the fluvial-estuary transition area and the second environment describes open woodland areas."
