Artikel ini membahas peran domestik perempuan Belanda di Hindia Belanda dalam majalah De Huisvrouw in Indië 1934. Majalah De Huisvrouw in Indië dikhususkan untuk pembaca di kalangan ibu rumah tangga dan diterbitkan oleh Nederlandse Vereniging van Huisvrouwen in Indië (Organisasi Ibu Rumah Tangga Hindia Belanda), bersamaan dengan naiknya jumlah perempuan Belanda yang datang ke Hindia Belanda pada abad ke-20. Penelitian dilakukan terhadap enam edisi majalah De Huisvrouw in Indië tahun 1934 dengan metode sejarah Kuntowijoyo (2013) dan mengacu pada konsep “The Happy Housewife” dari Friedan (1963) tentang representasi perempuan dalam majalah perempuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa majalah De Huisvrouw in Indië hadir menjadi penunjang untuk perempuan Belanda dalam menjalankan peran domestiknya di Hindia Belanda dan peran domestik ini memiliki signifikansi tersendiri, terutama untuk mempertahankan supremasi kulit putih di daerah koloni. Perempuan Belanda di Hindia Belanda menjalankan peran domestik untuk mempertahankan rust en orde (ketenangan dan ketertiban) sehingga tidak terjadi pencampuran antara orang-orang kulit putih dengan masyarakat pribumi dengan membentuk ruang domestik yang sesuai dengan Hollandse gezellig (kenyamanan Belanda) melalui kehadiran Huisje, Boompje, Beestje (rumah, taman, dan hewan peliharaan), sebagaimana tercermin dalam konten-konten di majalah De Huisvrouw in Indië.

This article discusses the depiction of the domestic role of Dutch women in the Dutch East Indies in De Huisvrouw in Indië. De Huisvrouw in Indië is a magazine tailored for housewives and published by Nederlandse Vereniging van Huisvrouwen in Indië (Association of Housewives in the Netherlands Indies) alongside the rise of Dutch woman arriving in Dutch East Indies during the 20th century. The study analyzes six editions of De Huisvrouw in Indië published in 1934 using historical methods introduced by Kuntowijoyo (2013) and refers to the concept of "The Happy Housewife" introduced by Friedan (1963) regarding the representation of women in women's magazines. The results of this research show that De Huisvrouw in Indië magazine serves to support Dutch women in the Dutch East Indies in carrying out their domestic roles. The study also found that the domestic role of Dutch women in Dutch East Indies has its own significance, especially to maintain white supremacy in the colonies. Dutch women in Dutch East Indies carries their domestic role to maintain rust en orde (tranquility and order) to avoid white people blending with natives by creating domestic space that fits the Hollandse gezellig (the Netherland comfort) through the presence of Huisje, Boompje, Beestje (house, garden, and pet), as reflected in the contents provided by De Huisvrouw in Indië.
