Skripsi ini menyelidiki karakteristik dan perilaku pelet besi reduksi langsung (DRI) di bawah lapisan karbon melalui analisis eksperimental. Studi ini melibatkan pemanasan pelet DRI yang terendam dalam bubuk karbon di dalam tungku pemanas resistansi. Serangkaian eksperimen dilakukan dengan variasi waktu penahanan di dalam tungku. Perubahan massa dicatat, dan analisis kualitatif dilakukan menggunakan teknik SEM/EDX dan SEM/EBSD. Asumsi awal adalah bahwa reaksi reduksi akan mengurangi oksida yang tersisa di sekitar pelet DRI. Namun, pengamatan pada suhu 600°C menunjukkan bahwa terjadi reoksidasi pelet DRI, bukan pengurangan oksida permukaan yang diantisipasi.
This thesis investigates the characteristics and behavior of direct reduced iron (DRI) pellets under a carbon bed through experimental analysis. The study involves heating DRI pellets submerged in carbon powder within a resistance heating furnace. A series of experiments were conducted with varying holding times in the furnace. Mass changes were recorded, and qualitative analyses were performed using SEM/EDX and SEM/EBSD techniques. The initial assumption was that reduction reactions would reduce the remaining oxides surrounding the DRI pellets. However, observations at 600°C revealed that reoxidation of the DRI pellets occurs, rather than the anticipated reduction of surface oxides.
