The purpose of this study is to explain the relationship between militant extremist mindset (MEM), ethos of conflict (EOC), and self-uncertainty. This study consists of three studies with the main hypothesis that EOC mediates the relationship between self-uncertainty and MEM in the context of the Aceh conflict post peace treaty. The preliminary study explores social representations of the Aceh conflict, Aceh’s adversary, and peacebuilding in Aceh, confirming four societal beliefs from EOC in Acehnese society. Study 1 shows a positive relationship between EOC and MEM from Aceh participants (N=95). Study 2 with participants from Aceh Province (N=284) shows that EOC fully mediates the relationship between self-uncertainty and MEM including Nastiness and Grudge dimension. The results of this study show that self-uncertainty can only predict extremist mindset through EOC.
