Perkembangan incremental house menyesuaikan kebutuhan penghuninya. Kebutuhan penghuni dapat diasosiasikan dengan kebutuhan manusia. Maslow (1970) membagi hierarki kebutuhan manusia menjadi delapan tingkatan: physiological, safety, love, esteem, desire to know and understand, aesthetic, self actualization dan self transcendence.
Metropolitan cities often have housing problems, especially with limited land prices leading to high house prices. But shelter is a basic human need. Incremental housing emerged as a response to this issue. Incremental housing is a concept of gradual built house. The development of the incremental houses adapt to the needs of its residents. Residents' needs can be associated with human needs. Maslow (1970) divides the hierarchy of human needs into eight levels: physiological, safety, love, esteem, desire to know and understand, aesthetic, self-actualization and self-transcendence. This thesis discusses the relationship between incremental housing and Maslow's Theory of Motivation. The study of related literature and observation of the development of the incremental house case serve as a tool for drawing conclusions. So it can be seen that the occurrence of the incremental house is motivated by changing needs (Maslow's Motivation Theory). The development of incremental houses occurs continuously in parallel until the house meets all the needs of its occupants.
