Female Genital Mutilation atau yang dikenal dengan sunat perempuan, merupakan praktik yang masih kental dilakukan. Tujuan makalah non seminar ini untuk memahami motif di balik praktik sunat perempuan. Penulisan menggunakan studi literatur sebagai sumber kajian. Hasil dari pengamatan ini adalah adanya nilai bahwa hak kebertubuhan perempuan untuk mencapai kepuasan seksual harus dibatasi. Hal ini lahir akibat konstruksi sosial patriarki yang mengharuskan perempuan tidak permisif dan lsquo;suci rsquo;. Secara medis, praktik sunat perempuan tidak membawa kemaslahatan apapun, bahkan cenderung lebih membahayakan nyawa perempuan. Kendati demikian, praktik ini masih dilakukan dikarenakan pemaknaan sunat perempuan bagi kehidupan sosial dipengaruhi oleh tradisi turun-menurun dan agama.
