Direct liquefaction of South Sumatera low-rank coal was studied experimentally at laboratory scale. This study was carried out in an autoclave of 5 litre capacity using vehicle oil as donor solvent and CoMo as a catalyst. Time reaction and reaction temperature were varied. The initial pressure and the reaction temperature makes the progress of conversion and oil yield much more sensitive to the residence time variable.
